Education the Key Issue in Florida Boat Insurance and Safety

Category: Our Blog

Recreational boating and other water sports are two of the major attractions of living in a warm and inviting climate such as that experienced in Florida. Florida boat insurance and boat safety are therefore key matters for any person considering taking to the vast blue waters. However it is important to understand the dangers of the state’s sometimes unpredictable waterways.

Every year many hundreds are killed and thousands injured from preventable recreational boating accidents throughout the U.S., according to the Boating Safety Resource Center — the boating safety division of the U.S. Coast Guard. Many of these accidents could have been avoided says the site, if victims had attended available education and safety courses.

The U.S. Coast Guard (and a number of volunteer groups) offers a range of courses varying from subjects such as responsible boat ownership, to reading the weather, to learning how to navigate a vessel; as well as an introductory “Water N Kids” program. According to the site, the “…most popular basic courses generally have from 6 to 13 lessons to provide a foundation of operational and safety instruction.”
